FMG has successfully won a significant vehicle recovery contract with National Highways, the government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England’s motorways and major A roads.

Responsible for keeping the traffic flowing on 4,500 miles of England’s motorways and A-roads, FMG manages a unique tripartite relationship with National Highways and a dedicated network of Vehicle Recovery Operators (VROs). The contract, which began in 2008, covers the statutory removal and recovery of accident-damaged, broken down and abandoned vehicles from England’s motorways and all-purpose trunk roads.

The new exclusive 6 year agreement, with the potential to extend for up to 48 additional months, follows a highly-competitive tender process, and is expected to result in the management of over 22,000 recoveries each year, including both light and heavy vehicles. This includes vehicle storage and disposal of uncollected property and strategic pre-positioning services, where VROs are placed on standby in key locations during extreme weather or major traffic events.

Retaining such a significant national contract reflects FMG and the broader ZIGUP group's credentials as a trusted partner to both public and private sector organisations and is another great example of how our differentiated customer service delivered at scale is key for large customers.

Andrew Chandler, Managing Director at FMG:
“We are extremely proud to announce this next chapter in our longstanding relationship with National Highways. Retaining this contract is hugely important for FMG as it reinforces the trust placed in us for the consistent high-quality delivery of this large-scale critical service. Together with National Highways and our network of VROs we share a joint commitment to providing fast and reliable journeys for all road users, and a large part of this is continually identifying opportunities for new and innovative solutions, the latest advancements in systems integration, operational efficiency and sustainability.

This new contract is a real testament to the expertise, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by FMG’s dedicated teams and our highly valued VRO partners, and over the tenure of the new contract we’ll continue to embrace change and evolution in the automotive industry to help more road-users have safer, smoother and more reliable journeys.”
