FMG are extremely proud to partner the Road Safety Charity Brake, now in their 10th year of sponsorship for the charity who work with communities and organisations across the UK to make streets and communities safer for everyone.

As the annual National Road Safety Week draws to a close, in which drivers are encouraged to adopt safe driving habits to promote safer roads for all, colleagues across FMG were encouraged to join the thousands of people across the UK in this year’s theme, ‘Bike Smart’, focusing on the safety of those on two wheels.

The annual event, which this year asked drivers to #ThinkBike, was aimed at encouraging everyone on the roads to play their part in protecting those on two wheels. As an automotive business with a keen passion for road safety, using the awareness week to host a number of initiatives around the business to coincide with Brake’s awareness campaign proved a useful reminder as to the often simple steps we can take to minimise the chances of the worst happening.

Cyclists and motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users in the UK with more than a third of people killed or seriously injured on UK roads being those travelling by bike, and more than 100 riders injured every day in needless, preventable crashes.

Facilitating understanding of the dangers of speed, not checking mirrors, ‘dooring’, and incorrect lane usage to ultimately save lives is a compelling message, but having those messages alongside virtual cycles, going ‘bright for Brake’, a quiz all about ‘bikes’ and sharing colleagues stories about the highs and lows of being a biker helped to really bring the essence of the RSW message to life.

FMG’s Managing Director,Harvey Stead commented: “Incidents have a massive impact on individuals and businesses, and we are committed to educating both customers and employees to improve road safety. We’ve been long-standing supporters of Brake as there is a high level of synergy between Brake’s dedication to raising awareness of key road safety messages and FMG’s commitment to preventing incidents from happening in the first place.”

Brake’s Corporate Fundraising Manager, Emma Kovaleski popped in to FMG’s new offices to see first-hand the company’s support of the initiative, commenting “Brake is delighted that FMG have committed to their continued support of the charity, and to raising awareness about road safety. I applaud their dedication to raising the profile of Road Safety both internally, with their fantastic employees, and externally within fleets they work alongside.

Their efforts are a fantastic example of how companies can get involved not only in National Road Safety Week, but also in addressing the wider challenges of raising the profile of Road Safety. Brake looks forward to their continued successful partnership with FMG.”
